Dear Kiki,                               February 9, 2016

Congratulations on your First Place winning bookmark design!  On behalf of the Massachusetts School Library Association, I am pleased to invite you, your family, School Librarian, and administrators to attend the 2016 Library Legislative Day at the State House in Boston, where you will be celebrated along with other exemplary School Library programs. A parent or guardian MUST accompany you to the State House Ceremony.

School Libraries are a valuable resource in every child’s life and you have shown great respect for your School Library program by creating a beautiful bookmark that will be widely distributed. Our theme this year was “My School Library is AWESOME because...” . The designs all reinforce the importance of School Libraries, which are dedicated to teaching literacy and critical 21st Century Skills to ensure the success of all students in all aspects of their lives.

The Library Showcase and Bookmark Contest Awards will take place at the State House in Boston on March 8, 2016 at the Grand Staircase Area (2nd floor). Registration begins at 10:30 AM. The Library Showcase and Bookmark Contest Awards Ceremony is part of the annual MSLA/MLA Legislation Day where we visit our lawmakers to advocate for continued and increased support for School Libraries, with special recognition for those who have been exceptional advocates for our cause.

Again, my congratulations and I hope to meet you soon at the State House.

Flashlight Thursday in Miss Kelley's first grade class!

Thanks to the PTO, Miss Kelley was able to purchase small finger flashlights for classroom reading.  The students were so excited to use them!  They invited me to their class to see how they are used.  Strap them on your finger, turn off the lights and point at each word…oh yes, and READ!!!  The students really enjoyed this.  William showed me his number grid, where it colors a number each time he reads a book!  He is so excited to share his chart with me!
