WIN Movement Groups.....Volunteer Trainings!

The first training session for parent volunteers planning to run WIN movement groups went great! We are very excited to get this program up and running, but really need all volunteers to participate in one of the trainings. We are very aware of parents' time constraints, especially during the holidays, so we have added two additional sessions. We will hold trainings this Monday and Tuesday afternoon at 3:05 and Wednesday at 10:10. All of these sessions will be in Mr. Sforza’s 4th grade classroom and will last about 20 – 25 minutes.
Thank you again for your time and effort in helping to get this going!

One Hen Performance!

Thank you to Sarah Wolf, the PTO, and Spaulding Trust for bringing this wonderful assembly to EES! This assembly was in conjunction with the One Hen project where all elementary students across the district are provided with the amazing book, One Hen.  This ensemble played a musical score that was written by the presenter to portray the story.  The children enjoyed learning about each of the instruments and how the sounds were connected to each character.  All of the musicians commented on the thoughtful questions that students asked after the performance.  They were amazed at the level of understanding even from your youngest kindergarten students.

Help Wanted!

Opportunities now exist for parents to volunteer at every grade level to lead movement groups with students. Parent volunteers would be responsible for leading small groups of students through organized movement and relaxation activities. These groups will be occurring school wide, Monday through Friday, during already established WIN periods:
Grades K - 1: 11:38 – 12:08
Grades 2 – 3: 10:19 – 10:49
Grades 4 – 5: 2:15 – 2:45
Choosing to volunteer would mean committing to one day per week at just one grade-level. Of course, volunteers could choose to sign up for more time slots. Additionally, parent volunteers would have to be willing to come to school one afternoon for a brief training session regarding their role and responsibility. All parent volunteers must have an updated CORI check. Many parents have already stepped forward and volunteered for these positions! However, at this time there is still room for additional volunteers. If you would like to sign up or have any more questions, please contact Lindsay Gagnon, EES Parent Volunteer Coordinator, at GagnonL@mersd.org. Thank you for your continued support!

Amazing writing in Kindergarten!

The best part of my job is getting into classrooms and seeing all the amazing work that is going on!  Today I spent some time in Miss Russo's kindergarten classroom.  I was so impressed with these young students' writing about their halloween costumes.  Mrs. Russo explained to me that the students wrote about what they would be on Halloween and then drew a picture.  On Halloween, Mrs. Russo took pictures of each student and glued them next to the drawings.  Look at the details that each student included in their work!  This is truly amazing.
