Miss Oland's class developed classroom core values to help create a positive, inclusive classroom.  Students found different ways to create art work to depict these values.  They will be on display tonight for Open House!

Book Tasting Cafe

In order to promote a book series on a third grade reading level, Mrs. Curcuru set up a book tasting cafe. Students may take a book, read a small amount, or the whole book, rate the book on the rating form, and return the book. Students are asked to "taste" three books. We have Ling and Ting, Heidi Hecklebeck, Commander Toad, and some other choices.

Stayed tuned for the next cafe featuring take out menus, travel brochures, and cook books inspired by The Recipes for Adventure series.

Building sight words in first grade!

Students have their own personal pocket of sight words and practice building them with letter cubes.  Notice the vowels are red and the consonants are blue!

Loben's personal sight words!

The big bucket of letter cubes to pick from!!!!   The color coding helps students learn vowels and consonants.

Loben selects a new word from his envelope!

He says the word.

Loben begins to build the word "which" after locating the letter cubes!

He is very proud of his accomplishment!!  :).

Today we teachers taught students about "expected behaviors" throughout the school!

Students participated in a whole school event today.  They moved from station to station learning about what is expected in various places in the building.  This helps all students to be clear on what the adults expect over the course of the school day.  Students enjoyed hearing from various staff from station to station!  Mr. Marche had fun modeling unexpected behavior!!!  :)

Nurse Smith and Mrs. Randall talk about expectations for when students visit the Nurse's Office or Main Office.

Lunch monitors discuss lunchroom expectations with students.

Mr. Bodmer-Turner shares restroom expectation with the boys.

Mr. Marche (P.E.) and Mrs. Harding (recess) share outdoor expectations with students.

Mr. Skiba and Mr. Burnett share hallway expectations with students.
